Originally from Argentina and Israel, she experiments with diverse materials in her studio practice. A board member of Detroit Stockholm artists' collective, she completed residencies in Berlin (2017 at Takt Kunstprojektraum, 2019 at GlogauAIR). She received the Israeli Ministry of Culture prize for independent artists (2019) and a Riksförbundet Sveriges Konstföreningar grant (2023). Elion holds an Artist Diploma from Hamidrasha, Beit-Berl Art College, and a B.A. in English Literature & Linguistics from Tel Aviv University. ## Artist Statement Paula Elion's art explores daily interactions and the unspoken rules shaping us. Family relationships, the female image in a patriarchal society, identity, and gender perception — what is hidden in the everyday emerges in her work. Gender transformation has become deeply personal, woven into both her artistic practice and her experience as a mother. Her visual vocabulary incorporates a process of abstraction and converses with both the figurative and the expressive. Materials play a central role — layering, erasing, distorting — each gesture mirrors the fluidity of identity. ## Mediums Oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas, mixed media, found materials and readymades, textile and embroidery on found domestic textiles, pigments, digital art and AI-assisted video ## Paintings in Motion — Digital Art A series of AI-generated video artworks where original paintings are brought to life using Luma Dream Machine. Each piece transforms a static painting into a short animated video, exploring memory, identity, and family narratives through generative AI. The series includes: Daddy Loves Me So Much, Hugh's Passion, My Cowboys' Kiss (inspired by Brokeback Mountain), Sliding in the Yellow Slide into Deep Waters, That Amazing Smile, The Dance, The Girl on the Merry-Go-Round, and Waiting for Mom While Dancing.
